As the whirlwind of summer simmers to an end, I figured this was the perfect time to compose my first official blog post on this site. Much of my summer has been spent behind my computer screen, working on my Gold Award Project, creating the curriculum that will be unveiled at our bi-monthly meetings throughout the year. I have been working tirelessly on not just this curriculum, but many other aspects of the new Global Lens Club. It has definitely been a learning experience for me, making a website isn’t exactly something I do daily, but I am hoping that all of this work can culminate to an even greater learning experience for all of us.
The frontline program of this club is the curriculum I have created based upon the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals were created in 2015, with intentions of being reached by 2030. They are also referred to as “The Global Goals”, for the people, the planet, and prosperity. It is no doubt that these goals are going to take a lot of work to reach, and that is where we come in. I have several projects lined up and am open to ideas for additional projects. A majority of these projects aren’t solely working towards one goal, but instead working towards intersectionality by covering several goals.
I also have many other opportunities lined up, such as special events and resources for days such as: Global Poverty Day, International Day of the Girl, and International Human Rights Day. Another opportunity I have planned is participation in cultural events put on by the community. I am very excited for all of us to be able to explore and learn about different cultures and the rest of the world.
Throughout the year I will be using this platform to share our experiences, during meetings, during projects, and during other cultural events. I also plan to have a few guest writers featured on this page so keep an eye out for that! I am looking forward to a great year leading the Global Lens Club, and I hope you are just as excited to learn about global issues and gain a global lens!
